About Us

Gudrun Erla, the designer and owner of GE Designs is born and
raised in Iceland. She started quilting at the age of 23 and
became totally addicted to it right away. In the summer of 2000,
she opened the first online quilt shop in Iceland based in the
basement of her home. A year later the store expanded 400%
when it was moved to a storefront location. Gudrun had always
designed along with running the store, and sold her patterns, at
that time only in her native language, Icelandic. Being
encouraged by salesmen visiting the store, Gudrun translated
her patterns into English and created a US based publishing
company in the spring of 2003. Designing patterns was always a
no.1 passion for Gudrun her design business and her husband’
s career change, brought them to the USA in the fall of 2003,
selling the quilt shops. They now live in Chanhassen, Minnesota,
with their 3 children. Gudrun designs patterns and takes care of daily matters of the
business. Her 3 children, Atli (15), Gisli (8) and Svana (7) fill up the task schedule each day,
but are also an inspiration for new quilts & accessories.

Gudrun loves everything quick and easy, which can be finished in a short period of time. Her
friends call her the shortcut expert, as she is always finding ways to do things quicker and
using easier methods.
Her “quilt as you go” patterns have been very popular, with easy to follow instructions and
quick assembly and finishing. All her patterns are geared toward today’s quilt makers, easy
and fast with a stylish touch.
